It was an exciting morning on Wednesday 11 September as the Year 7 and 8 students had the privilege of hearing from Morris Gleitzman, 2019 Australian Children’s laureate and author of more than 40 children's books.
In Wednesday's student-led presentation by Caitlin Minorgan, Hannah Bradley and Tyler Elliott, students learned that Mr Gleitzman started writing at the age of 11, his books explore serious and sometimes confronting subjects in humorous and unexpected ways. The Year 7 and 8 students also participated in library sessions in the lead up to his arrival where they had the opportunity to think about their favourite Gleitzman stories and ideas about reading and writing. Mr Gleitzman’s talk encouraged the students to express themselves and explore ideas to improve their friendships and relationships with their peers and others.
Mr Gleitzman aims to promote the value of stories for young people in developing resilience, empathy, smart thinking, optimism, and hope. He believes children need inspirational stories now more than ever!
