Fastest long distant runner makes College proud

Year 12 Kennedy Baptist College student Luke Shaw accomplished an amazing achievement at the Annual Associated & Catholic Colleges of Western Australia Cross Country event held at Perry Lakes Reserve on 30 May 2019.

From the 1658 male competitors representing 74 schools, Luke claimed overall victory with a time of 12mins and 19.45 seconds for the 4000m run. Luke’s victory, together with his teammates’ excellence runs, helped Kennedy claim the Boys Open Aggregate Trophy and 10th overall. Luke is current training schedule total up to 60km per week and he is working his way up to 100km per week by the end of this year. Luke’s desire is to represent Australia in the under 20(800m) World championship in Kenya 2020, Commonwealth Games Birmingham UK 2022 and Paris 2024 Olympics games.

We are proud of Luke’s achievements over the years and we wish him the very best where he aims for the world stage in 2020.

Luke’s dad’ Mark Shaw said: “That’s a lot of running per week, however, to be World Class, that’s the endurance training required just to be competitive in a 2 lap race.”

Some of Luke’s past achievement includes:

  • State records under 16/18 -800m
  • ACC Allstar’s Track and Field
  • ACC Allstar’s Cross Country
  • National Age Group Podium placings
  • Top 10 Fastest World under 18 (800m) 1:49.86
